HighLab has been the future of outdoor sports since 1994. It is a futuristic and exclusive laboratory set up to test materials and prototypes in the field, in extreme – practically impossible – conditions. But it is also a philosophy, an integral part of Ferrino’s DNA: to go where no one has ever gone before.
The result is a range of products that matches the highest quality standards, guaranteeing maximum performance in all climate conditions, even the worst.
The high level of technology and constant innovation ensure that HL is a guideline for all hikers, both professional and amateur. However it is worth noting that testing is carried out on all Ferrino products, not just HL ones. Dicover HL Pro Team.

Testing never ends with HL.

A battery of vigorous tests, including a wind tunnel.
The wind tunnel is the toughest test a field tent has to face. Tents are weighed down with sandbags and subjected to violent gusts that can reach 93mph.
You’re right: it’s not easy being a Ferrino tent.

  • Waterproofed fabrics and seams.
  • Transpiration and condensation control.
  • Traction, rip, and abrasion resistance.
  • Transpiration.
  • Ergonomic design, anatomical adaptability, comfort, and insulation.
  • Capacity and volume.

Where are our HL laboratories?

Quintino Sella mountain refuge, 3585 m.
Located on the Aosta Valley slope of Monte Rosa, it operates in July and August. It is open to all mountaineers and hikers who wish to take part in tests, trying out the HL range in the field. For more details and reservations, call 0125 366113.

Naica Cave, Mexico, 290m
A hellish place: 290 meters deep, slippery tunnels, temperatures that can reach 50° C, humidity that verges on 100%. How long can the human body survive? Just a few minutes. The slightest fault in clothing can be fatal. In order to explore the cave, Ferrino produced a thermal suit similar to a space suit: the Tolomea. This is an extraordinary suit that allows La Venta’s cavers to withstand the blistering heart of the Cueva de los Cristales for 80 minutes, one of the most hostile environments that has ever existed.

HL tests have been round the world, and continue to do so.

  • Everest, Himalaya. Between China and Nepal, at over 5000 m.
  • Aconcagua, Argentinian Andes, 4320 m.
  • Lagorai, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy, 2000 m.
  • Le Mejie, French Alps, 2508 m.

That’s why HL’s experience knows no limits, even geographical ones.
