THE RACE – From a technical viewpoint, both the men’s and women’s events were excellent and the cream of the crop was there at the finish. All eyes were on Englishman Martin Cox, in great form after his recent second place at the Ciaspolada della Val di Non race, who lived up to expectations, winning with a time of 38’07”. Second place went to Frenchman Stephane Ricard, who finished with a time of 39’19”; that’s four seconds less than the Italian, Marco Agostini (39’23”).
Italy dominated the women’s event and once again, the top spot on the podium went to Maria Grazia Roberti,
A successful end to the tenth Racchettinvalle, the snowshoe race in Pragelato. A sporting Sunday involving thousands of people and further positive confirmation for the trend of the last few years. In fact, from the early hours, more than 2,000 “ciaspolatori” [snowshoers] met up near the Olympic ski jump facility to try their luck on a charming snow-covered route mapped out to cover the most enchanting areas in the villages of Alta Val Chisone and the surrounding valleys.
The race itself got underway at 11:00, starting out from the Olympic ski jump facility. From there, those taking part reached the Nordic skiing piste, dealing with technical compression to arrive at a long, slight slope surrounded by larch woods. Once at the entrance to Val Troncea, first they crossed the Pragelato Village Resort, a splendid tourist residence in the heart of this alpine ski resort; then it was on to the village of Traverses, before flanking the bank of the Chisone River and crossing the finish line.
Baldas, the snowshoe brand from Ferrino, sponsored the tenth Racchettinvalle race.
