Jenny Lavarda, training, competitions, and Ferrino and DMM materials

(19.04.2007) After her victory in the Ice World Cup, Jenny Lavarda is training intensively for her sports climbing World Cup season. But, thinking back to the ice season that has just concluded, these are her impressions of the products tested for Ferrino and DMM.

"Climbing, climbing and more climbing. Since the last stage of the Ice World Cup in Romania, I haven't even had time to savour my victory. The day after, I was already back in training for the sports climbing competitions...So now I have put away my ice-picks and crampons and got out my shoes and chalk and I have started pitching and cranking like mad on the climbing wall, from morning to night ...

After three months without touching my beloved handholds, the first week was really hard - especially getting the strength back in my fingers. Now things are going great! I am really, really motivated this year and I've got lots of enthusiasm and a great desire to train.

Lately I have been working myself "to death", training as much as possible because the competitions that interest me start late. In fact, I'll be competing above all in the Difficulty World Cup that starts in May...even if for me, the climax is in September with the World Cup in Spain and I hope to be in good enough shape when I get there.

Between one training session and another, I have also managed to find the time to make a few comments on the material Ferrino gave me to test this winter. In any case, those like me, who are passionate about climbing and mountains, know just how important materials and equipment are in our sport.

So I can say that I really appreciated the Ferrino backpacks, especially the Heli Rescue first-aid backpack: it's really handy when you need to slip in ice-picks and boots and then, when you open it, everything is within easy reach. Excellent and really comfortable!

But for a climbing enthusiast like me, the DMM quickdraws were the real revelation: truly sensational. They are versatile, so much so that they are also excellent for "mixed" climbing, but above all, I was really impressed by the fact that they are so light. I'm not exaggerating when I say that perhaps they are the best quickdraws I've ever used in all these years.

Generally speaking, I have found Ferrino products to be phenomenal in terms of quality. There's nothing I don't like ... Even the DMM crash pad is fantastic; it's comfortable, very big, lovely and excellent quality. Although the things I liked best - so much so that I fell in love them - are the ultra-light DMM quickdraws. Now I can really have fun on-sighting without any useless weights to drag me down!"
