New friends and new exciting adventures!
This time Ferrino joins forces with A.I.E.A. (Italian Association of Experts in Africa) to protect the rhinos, participating in the Save the Rhino Trust. There is alarm in Africa for the risk of disappearance of this species!
If in 1970 the total population of rhinos amounted to 70,000 specimens, in 2007 there were just 11,000, between whites and blacks.
The cause is to be found in the exponential increasing phenomenon of poaching, the true plight of African countries’ wildlife. The demand for rhino’s horn is very high, as it is used for a number of scopes: in Yemen, for example, it is used as a handle of ceremonial daggers, while in the East it is used as a natural aphrodisiac. There are a lot of people interested in this “business” and the black market for this luxury item is thriving.
Here is where Save the Rhino comes to play an important role as an international organization for the conservation of endangered populations of rhinos in Africa and Asia. The goal is to provide material for long lasting and widespread benefits for rhinos, the ecosystems and people living in these areas. Awareness that the future of wildlife is inextricably linked to the communities that share its habitat is now growing strong. Save the Rhino promotes sustainable methods, respect for the integrity of the ecosystems, assistance to local populations and conservation activities with on site projects.
Ferrino actively collaborates with Save the Rhino Trust and with A.I.E.A.’s friends, a group of intrepid guides, writers, and tourism experts, explorers for passion or profession united by their love for Africa and for adventure. Their purpose is to offer advice to those interested in knowing the African continent through a series of initiatives such as VolunTourism. A.I.E.A, a strong promoter of sustainable eco-tourism and for years at the forefront of the fight against poaching, has launched a major fundraising campaign to create a task force of experts in various areas that will work in the field with direct support actions. Among others, the association collaborates with Wilderness Safaris, an organization for conservation and eco-tourism that promotes responsible tourism in all regions in Southern Africa.
Ferrino, who is a member of A.I.T.R., the largest worldwide network committed to promoting responsible tourism, is also an official partner of Save the Rhino, and provides support to its rangers, through the provision of tents and sleeping bags.

What about you? How long will you be able to resist Africa’s call?
