    150 YEARS OF OUTDOOR

    Ferrino celebrates 150 years.

A CENTURY AND A HALF PASSED SINCE CESARE FERRINO INVENTED THE WATERPROOFING OF FABRICS
A century and a half of history, experiences and great adventures, which, from the paint shop at number 107 in via Nizza in Turin, took us to the top of the Himalayas and over all the 14 mountains that rise above eight thousand meters in the world, alongside great men who have written the history of high altitude mountaineering.

It is 1870 when Cesare Ferrino developed a formula able to waterproof canvases and fabrics. Our first customers were Fiat and the Italian Army, but we don't have to wait long before the mountain meets our history. Famous names such as the one of the famous Duke of Abruzzi, or the photographer from Biella Vittorio Sella and the Himalayan expert Mario Piacenza, embark on explorations never before in the most remote places of the planet and we are at their side offering them a waterproof, resistant and easily transportable shelter.

The tent as an emblem of what will later be our business direction. In the seventies and eighties our story is intertwined with that of a young Reinhold Messner who has one goal, to conquer all the 14 Eight-thousenders in the world. He succeeds in October 1986 and we are with him with a dome-shaped geodesic tent to withstand the strong winds of the Himalayas.

From then on, began a fruitful dialogue with mountaineers and explorers, to which we offer our experience and expertise gained over the years. Lately, winter expeditions have been particularly close to our hearts, those made in extreme conditions and at the mercy of the fierce Himalayan winter. Since 2017 we have been supporting the legendary Polish expeditions with tents, sleeping bags and backpacks from the Ferrino High Lab collection and, since this year, we have accompanied the Basque mountaineer Alex Txikon on his winter adventures in Antarctica and on Everest.

But we are not only addressing the most extreme mountaineering. Since 1994, thanks to the HighLab project, we have organized altitude base camps where to test our high-end products, which includes gears designed to withstand extreme conditions. The opinion of mountaineers, hikers, but also of simple enthusiasts, counts for us very much because it is what has allowed us, in these 150 years, to design, realize and innovate backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, clothing and snowshoes suitable to meet the different needs of the outdoor world, always guaranteeing a very high quality level.
