Mike Horn's new adventure has begun

MIKE HORN'S NEW ADVENTURE HAS BEGUN: FOUR YEARS SAILING TO THE PLANET'S MOST REMOTE ENVIRONMENTS TO DISCOVER AND REPORT ON THE SIGNS OF CLIMATE CHANGE.

It's called "What's Left", the big new project of Mike Horn, a true legend of exploration and longtime Ambassador of Ferrino, who, with his sailing boat Pangaea, will touch all the continents to discover what remains to be explored and what is left of the wild places he has visited in his long career.

In a career spanning more than 30 years, the South African Mike Horn has become one of the last great explorers, accomplishing feats previously considered impossible, such as the round-the-world trip around the Equator, completed in October 2000 without the use of any motorized vehicles, or the round-the-world trip around the Arctic Circle, started in 2002 and also completed without engines, or sled dogs and in total autonomy, overcoming two extremely harsh Arctic winters.

In 2006, Mike, together with his partner Børge Ousland, was also the first man to reach the North Pole on foot during the coldest season after 60 days and 5 hours of walking, and in 2016, he started a project to circumnavigate the globe, touching both the North and South Poles.

In between significant traverses, he also found time to devote himself to mountaineering at the highest level, summiting the 8000-metre peaks of Gasherbrum I and II in 2007. In 2010 he climbed Broad Peak, and in 2010 Makalu, always strictly without the assistance of sherpas or the use of oxygen cylinders.

After a life of adventure, at the age of 57, Mike Horn is not yet satiated with discoveries and new challenges and, in recent weeks, has set sail from Monaco on his 35-metre boat Pangaea to launch his new project 'What's Left', a very long voyage lasting four years, which will take him across the oceans and touch every continent to set off in search of as yet unexplored environments, rediscovering the traces of his previous voyages and bearing witness to the effects of climate change with stories and images.

"This trip represents a summary of my past experiences, while also offering an opportunity for the public to observe the current state of our planet.
Over the course of four years, I will visit iconic and untouched places, discovering what has changed
and achieving many feats that are still in my drawer of dreams.
Through this adventure, my goal is to inspire people to take action and pursue their passions.
Each destination in the carefully crafted itinerary of "What's Left" will showcase
the intertwined themes of adventure and the environment"

Inevitably, Mike was asked what remains to be explored in today's world: “In a world dominated by satellites and the Internet, there are still unexplored areas that invite adventure. Beyond our computer screens and smartphones, hidden caves, unknown oceans, and remote landscapes still fascinate explorers. True exploration goes beyond the dimension of the Internet and the virtual world, feeding the human spirit with curiosity, discovery, and the uncertainty of new adventures”.

The decision to make the voyage aboard the boat Pangea is not only due to Mike's love for sailing but is also confirmation of the concern for the environment that has always led him to renounce as much as possible the use of motor vehicles for his ventures: "Sailing minimizes my carbon footprint and impact on the environment and aligns my passion for the sea with the goal of preserving our planet," explains the explorer. "By embracing sailing as my main means of transport to move from one destination to another, I want to make my contribution to sustainability and show my commitment to our fragile ecosystems. Moreover, sailing allows me to immerse myself in nature and deepen my connection with the world around me, offering time for reflection and preparation. In the long time I have given myself to accomplish this journey, I am sure I will have the opportunity to discover changes that reflect the dynamic nature of our planet and show the effects of human activities".

The first leg of the journey will be Greenland, where in the next few months, after a challenging journey through the icebergs of the Arctic seas, Mike will attempt the demanding ascent of the Gunnbjørn Fjeld, the highest peak on the island, from which there is a 360° panorama of one of the most majestic areas of wilderness on Earth.

Ferrino will again be at Mike Horn's side on this new venture, as has been the case on all the South African explorer's other great expeditions.

"Mike is the symbol of the inexhaustible passion for discovery that animates mankind," comments Anna Ferrino, CEO of Ferrino, "a spirit that finds fulfilment in unique and incredible experiences such as those he has lived and continues to face, but also in the small adventures that all outdoor enthusiasts dream of and achieve, perhaps just a stone's throw from home. We are proud to contribute with our work and our products to the realization of these magnificent dreams. Be they small or big".
