Ferrino renews its support to the photo&scientific project on climate changes with the expedition “Alps 2020”
“On the trail of the Glaciers” aims to explain the most important mountain glaciers of the planet alterations in the last 100 years and therefore present the climatic changes consequences. It is about a photo&scientific project conceived by Fabiano Ventura and promoted by the Macromicro Association, with the support of some institutions and enterprises, including Ferrino.
Mont Blanc, Monte Rose, Bernina (Italian side) and Ortles-Cevedale. These are the mountain massifs where for 3 weeks will be held the preliminary expedition “Alps 2020”, started on 25th of July.
“We expect to find some special evidence of the climate changes effects on the entire Alpine region” says Fabiano Ventura, leader of the project On the trail of the Glaciers. “On the Alps, the glacial masses collapse it’s very significant. According to most recent scientific researches, from the half of the 19th century until today, the alpine glaciers have seen reduced their surface for about a 60% and there’re every year backwards of the front faces for dozens meters and very important thickness reductions even at high altitudes”.
Therefore the Alpine glaciers represent an invaluable archive to take stock of the situation about climate change. Because of this and for the huge amount of historical photographic material available about the Alps, the organization of a preliminary “Alps 2020” expedition became necessary. In fact, it would be impossible to reproduce the many shootings of the historical photographers that captured the Alpine area glaciers in a single expedition.
The Environmental Science Politic Department of the Milan University it will be involved as for the previous expeditions.
Ferrino will support also this “Alps 2020” project. “We have decided to keep supporting On the trail of the Glaciers – declares Anna Ferrino, Ferrino’s Ceo – for many reasons. The project respects the same morals of our enterprise, such as the respect for environment and it’s also in line with the attention to the planet which we promote since many years. The careful iconographic research, which is at the basis of Fabio Ventura job, fascinate us very much because he selected very iconic alpine images which often have matched with our long enterprise story and specially in the Alps 2020 project he speaks about our territory, doing it in our 150th foundation Anniversary, a very special moment for us. I believe therefore that these are two good reasons to support with our dress and technical furnitures the Alps 2020 expedition.”
